EVACUATION

Evacuation Information & Emergency Procedures
In the event of an emergency, residents must be prepared to evacuate their property with little notice. An evacuation order or alert may be issued by the Municipality when conditions are considered unsafe or hazardous for continued occupation.
Evacuation decisions are made to protect the health and safety of residents and emergency responders.

Evacuation Orders
When an evacuation order is issued:
  • Residents must leave the affected area immediately
  • Only essential personal items should be taken, if time permits
  • All instructions provided by municipal officials and emergency services must be followed
  • Returning to the area is not permitted until it has been deemed safe
Failure to comply with an evacuation order may place individuals and emergency personnel at serious risk.

Pets & Livestock
Residents are strongly encouraged to plan ahead for the evacuation of pets and livestock, as these arrangements can become difficult during an emergency.
Preparedness Recommendations:
Ensure pets are up to date on vaccinations and identification tags
Maintain carriers, leashes, and basic supplies for pets
  • Develop a livestock evacuation or relocation plan in advance
  • Identify potential temporary sheltering options where possible
The Municipality may assist in identifying suitable evacuation or shelter locations for pets and livestock during an emergency. Availability may vary depending on the situation.
For assistance or inquiries, please contact the Municipal Office at 204-425-3218.

Reception Centres
During an evacuation, the Municipality will direct evacuees to an official reception centre.
At the reception centre, residents will be able to:
  • Register as evacuees
  • Receive important updates and information
  • Be directed to available supports and services
  • Access emergency assistance as required
It is important that all evacuees register upon arrival to ensure they receive appropriate support.

Emergency Notification Methods
Residents should be aware that the Municipality may use multiple methods to issue evacuation notices or emergency alerts, including:
  • Emergency personnel and door-to-door notifications
  • Municipal website updates
  • Social media and official online channels
  • Local media outlets and radio broadcasts
  • Emergency alert systems (ALERT READY)
Residents are encouraged to remain alert to official communications during emergency situations.

Wildfire Evacuation Guidelines
Additional wildfire-specific evacuation guidance may be issued depending on conditions. Residents should follow all instructions provided by emergency officials without delay.
