Severe weather can occur with little warning and may include thunderstorms, high winds, hail, heavy rain, lightning, and winter storms. These events can create hazardous conditions that affect travel, property, utilities, and personal safety.

The RM of Stuartburn encourages all residents to stay informed and take proactive steps to prepare for severe weather events.

Severe weather in Manitoba may include:
  • Thunderstorms and lightning
  • High winds and windstorms
  • Hailstorms
  • Heavy rainfall and localized flooding
  • Winter storms and blizzards
  • Sudden temperature drops and extreme cold events
How to Prepare
Residents are encouraged to take the following steps to reduce risk and improve safety during severe weather:
  • Monitor weather forecasts and alerts regularly
  • Secure outdoor furniture, equipment, and loose objects
  • Keep emergency supplies and a 72-hour kit ready
  • Ensure backup lighting such as flashlights and batteries are available
  • Have a plan for power outages, including food and heating alternatives
  • Avoid unnecessary travel during severe weather conditions
During Severe Weather
If severe weather occurs:
  • Stay indoors and away from windows
  • Avoid using electrical appliances during lightning storms
  • Do not travel unless absolutely necessary
  • Follow instructions from local authorities and emergency services
  • Report downed power lines or hazards to the appropriate utility provider
